loosening pinions

I've tried everything. Files, Emory cloth, acid flux. I've got two new cars I built both proslot boss .490 motors...125grams with wheelie bars and 1 1/16" x.435 tires. 10x60 gears. They both spin the pinion after 2 or 3 passes. The one has run in the nines in the 1/4, should be in the 8's. How do I get the pinion to stay ?

Re: loosening pinions

I tin the shaft first then I ream and clean the hole in the pinion then I put a drop of acid flux in the hole. I then place the pinion on the tinned shaft and place a hot iron on the pinion holding pressure till it slides on. I use 60/40 solder. let me know how it works for u, good luck

Re: loosening pinions

I use this method on everything from AA/FC to my slowest bracket cars and it has never failed me yet.
