Old myths revisited

Some of the Old Myths that keep floating around do more to hamper a program than help it. Saying that "Increasing the Timing always increases RPM and loses Torque", while not being totally worthless information, is certainly worth less.
The factors that determine useful Timing are the Wind of the Armature, the height of the magnets as well as their tip profile, and the track power that your car is being supplied with. Other factors that can also have an effect are the weight of the car, the tire size, the amount of glue on the track, and the airgap in your motor.

It is more accurate to say that Increasing the Timing CAN raise the RPM and reduce Torque. I have used Timing high enough that the RPM fell off as well as the Torque, and plenty of times where running more Timing ran better everywhere, including in 60ft. Living on the ragged edge of one of the extremes is not going to give the desired results.

10* of Timing probably runs just as bad as 65*.  Even if it runs cooler, so what? It still runs bad. Timing really isn't some black art, or witchcraft that some make it out to be.

Knowledge does not equal Understanding, and the Truth is the Truth, no matter what you think of it...........
