Re: New Rail

Hey D, yeah, stop encouraging Roy....  You're a bad influence.....  Hehehehe

I knew that I forgot to do something....  I'll send it out to you this week.....

Project Ghostrider is awaiting a new motor.  I'm going to try it get it ready to run as my #2 car for the Boola Race in December.  We're supposed to race AA/FC against the road race guys.  We're going to go up against Buef Pederson and the rest of the Koford guys.  I think I'm bringing a knife to a gunfight, but we'll see what happens...  Last year I set top speed, this year, I'm gonna try to win the whole deal.....

Re: New Rail

Hamlin. I guess I'm trying to hard to keep it on the light side, I'm around 110 grams, 14-46 gears (after changing every crown gear) and small rear tires. I need to find a 20 that works in my pile....    and some bigger tires.
Could it be that a Raptor Neo motor is too much for it?
Thanks for the info though...

  DVan
P.S. I barely have a film of glue when I run mine.. (See Article)

Re: New Rail

Some good news i managed to straighten the front end and have it here at work on the comparator and its looking good with regard to straightness going to check the rails for parallelism later  on
one thing i did notice is that the motor mount is tweaked when i checked true position (http://www.ehow.com/how_6019453_calculate-true-position.html    ) on the axle from the front of the box this may mean that the motor box was not square to begin with not a reflection on DVans building but that structure is just a stamp and bend piece so could have an effect on how well a car behaves down track ....
old MINIs back in the UK suffered from a condition called crabbing where the sub frames would be out of alignment between driving wheels and the rear wheels and from the rear it would look like the car was sliding sideways as it went down the road
the correlation here would be if the axle is not square to the guide i think the effect would be the same I spoke with Timmy a while back about painting the guide sides with whiteout paint to see if one side contacted more than another though because of other projects i have not done this yet

I have worked in Quality Assurance and Metrology virtually my whole life within Aerospace and BIO TECH fields and now through Martys articles I can see where his passion for using equipment to better his cars performance is coming from i enjoy the kind of work he is doing in my regular job so will now try and use it to better my cars.

Getting in the 7s is easy with this chassis. I think what is killing y'alls is that y'all have to use glue. I've been building this chassis for a while now and never had to use glue.

I built a dragster and threw an old 2O in it so I could have some cars to race at a big race. It has .700 wides, weighs 136grams geared 13-56 , and runs  .830s @ 75mph all night. My chassis design is real easy to make one go fast.

Hi Hamlin
would you be willing to show your dragster frame with some pix
Thanks

Re: New Rail

Hamlin, great looking chassis, as to the welding rods, do they have any flex in them?
Also if possible are they heavier than .062 wire and what thickness would they be?
You mention .700 tires, how tall are they?

Thanks

I'd try putting the weight on the body not the chassis. I have built this chassis many ways and weight on the body works better. And try welding rod for the chassis instead of piano wire. Notice my wire is gold

Interested in your reasoning for the weight in the body as opposed to on the chassis
have you tried both did it perform better in the body
just trying to understand the dynamics of what makes this work.

Re: New Rail

Went to the track today actually to test my new Funny Car but with a number of people requiring different track conditions I was not able to do any testing as will be needed
anyway i had made a few changes to the dragster after straightening the wall results usually making more than one change is not good as you can not be sure which change or if it was all the changes made the difference anyway being as I am officially off DVans hired gun program I thought what the HE77 added a bunch of weight now 126G
changed the gearing to 3.92 (see the pictures for explanation)
and added a wing oh yes a lot of thought went into this all the reading on aeronautical laminar flow and the blood sweat and tears for oh about let me see yes 10 seconds  anyway the outcome was ok to say the least I am tired so i am just posting the pix and let you rearrange them this rail has more init ask me how i know
and yes i know it says Ray on the screen  but my name got removed from the racer list for some reason

Re: New Rail

Here is a design thats worked for me. A few degrees down in front. Was having trouble with it registering even with 12 grams in the nose. Added the wing and problem solved.
